Stuff White People Like is a blog satirizing the interests of North American "left-leaning, city-dwelling white folk".[1] The WordPress blog was created in January 2008 by white Canadian Christian Lander, and coauthored with his Filipino Canadian friend Myles Valentin,[2][3][4][5] after Valentin teased Lander about his watching the television series, the Wire.[6] It became popular very quickly, registering over 300,000 daily hits and over 40 million total hits as of the end of September 2008.[4]

Although the name is sometimes controversial for suggesting racial stereotyping, the blog is not about the interests of all white people, but rather the affluent, well-educated (particularly in the liberal arts), left-wing (e.g. environmentally conscious, anti-corporate), and/or hipster white North Americans.[6] Lander claims to be satirizing contemporary versions of yuppie culture.[6] The book's cover

Lander has also written Stuff White People Like: A Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions, a book that was released on July 1, 2008.[7] Although Lander is listed as the sole author of the book,[8] some of its content comes from the blog posts written by Myles Valentin.[9][3] The book has made several bestseller lists. Lander was reportedly paid a $300,000 advance by the publisher, Random House, for the book deal.[10]

Stuff White People Like has inspired spin-off blogs about similar topics, including Asians[11] and Germans.[12]
