BYU Television

BYU Television (also known as BYU TV) is a cable/satellite television channel operated by Brigham Young University. BYU Television content originates from the University and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It is sometimes confused with KBYU-TV, a PBS member station in Provo, Utah also owned by BYU, but the two stations do not share the same schedule. While KBYU-TV is only available on Channel 11 in Salt Lake and most of Utah through translator stations and cable/sateliite, BYU TV is broadcast nationwide via Verizon FiOS, Dish Network and DirecTV, and worldwide at BYU.tv.

BYU Television delivers programming to viewers across the globe through direct satellite broadcast services (for example, Dish and DirecTV), cable carriers in select areas, the Church satellite system, and Internet streaming.

In 2007, BYU Television launched a new channel, BYU Television International, which features programming in the Spanish and Portuguese languages.

The network is currently available to more than 40 million cable and DTH (direct-to-home) satellite subscribers in the United
States. BYU is available on cable in Utah, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, California, Washington, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Florida.

BYU Television is working to add additional cable carriers across the United States, and in the last year Charter Communications launched the channel nationwide on their digital religious tier.

BYU can also be found on the Dish Network and DirecTV satellite services, and through online streaming provided by Move Networks.

The intended audiences of BYU Television are alumni and friends of BYU, Church members, and others who are interested in the beliefs and values of the Church and its educational institutions.[citation needed]
